Makita's 5477NB hypoid saw utilizes some pretty, dare I say, revolutionary technologies to bring craftsmen a new breed of circular saw. The tool derives its name from its internal hypoid gears. These ultra efficient little suckers provide much greater surface contact and far more power than traditional worm drive gears making this tool more smooth and durable than most of its competitors. The hypoid gears are built with heat treated hypoid steel (a tremendously stronger metal than the bronze-alloy of standard worm drive gears) that won't wear or deteriorate prematurely. The tool incorporates an oil bath technology designed with a sealed gear housing and built-in fan to ensure a complete oil surface coating; ultimately, the hypoid gears are terribly efficient and nearly maintenance free. Along the same vein, the 5477NB has externally accessible brushes making the inevitable brush replacement fast and simple. Having access to the brushes also helps craftsmen maintain contact with the inner-workings of the tool thus (as the in-sight, on-mind adage testifies) extending its overall longevity. The tool's thick gauge base is chemically treated to resist wear and rust and provides stability and precision as you cut. The saw boasts a 15 amp motor, bevel capacity of 0-51.5 degrees (with positive stops at 45 and 51.5 degrees), large cutting capacity, simple adjustments, and an ergonomic design to offer craftsmen a truly unique quality in a circ saw with authoritative power and precision.
